The PSOE will propose Francina Armengol for the presidency of the Congress of Deputies in the constitutive session of the 15th Legislature to be held on Thursday 17 August. According to the party, Armengol has been a member of the Socialist Party of the Balearic Islands since the 1990s and has extensive experience and service in public and parliamentary life. She has developed her work in the main administrations: councillor in the town council of Inca in its beginnings, then deputy in the Parliament of the Balearic Islands, president of the Consell Insular de Mallorca, deputy in the Congress of Deputies to finally become the first woman president of the autonomous community in 2015, a position she revalidated in 2019.

Francina Armengol is a politician who is close to the everyday reality of the citizens, the PSOE communiqué continues. She represents the fight for women’s equality, social justice and a commitment to coexistence based on dialogue. She is also an example of a country that coexists naturally in the richness of the different languages spoken in Spain, as well as a leader committed to the ecological transition. “We are convinced that she will represent our country, as the third highest authority in the state, with the utmost solvency, just as her predecessor Meritxell Batet did”, party sources concluded.

After the announcement, the former president of the Govern expressed on Twitter “very excited and grateful for the confidence of my party and our secretary general, Pedro Sánchez. The citizens are waiting for us to be able to undertake a legislature of dialogue, work and consensus. We are in politics to solve people’s problems, to transform society and to move towards a better future”.
