King Felipe VI and the acting head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, will not meet this summer at the Marivent Palace, but will do so “ordinarily” at the Zarzuela Palace. This was confirmed by Isabel Rodríguez, acting minister spokesperson, after the first acting Council of Ministers. The head of state will be the one to specify the date on which the meeting will take place.

After the elections held last Sunday, the current government is now in office, which could have led to this decision, according to reports from Moncloa. Rodríguez has announced that the meeting will not be of an extraordinary nature and will take place as “has become customary”. In August 2016, when Mariano Rajoy was also acting president, the monarch also met with him in Zarzuela, where he travelled from Palma. However, the same did not happen in 2019, when the acting Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, met at the Royal Family’s summer residence.

On 27 July, the King is scheduled to receive the President of the Balearic Islands, Margarita Prohens, at the Royal Palace of La Almudaina. The meeting with the representatives of the Balearic institutions is customary before the Royal Family’s summer stay in Palma begins.
