The 2024 edition of Teatre de Barra in Palma presents a selection of plays ranging from comedy to drama and tragicomedy. An annual event that has gained popularity in Palma and in which, this year, spectators will have the chance to enjoy fascinating stories in some of the city’s most emblematic venues. Teatre de Barra will be held on Thursdays the 15th, 22nd and 29th of February and the 7th and 14th of March. The timetable for the performances: 20:15, 20:50, 21:25 and 22:00 on the stages in the venues in Blanquerna street and the surrounding area. This year, under the theme “De llegenda”.

The Bar Mavi will be the central space for information and advance ticket sales, also available on the days of the performances. Its opening hours are from 8:00 to 22:00. Tickets cost 4.50 euros. The final of this year’s Teatre de Barra 2024 will be held on Saturday the 16th of March at Palma’s Mar i Terra municipal theatre at 8:00 pm.

“El Salt del Vell Home (I Sundance Kid)” – Bar Ca Na Mercy

A comedy written and directed by Bernat Molina, this play is performed by Luca Bonadei and Bernat Molina himself. The plot revolves around a bet between a father and a son. If the old man wins, he will get a trip to Bolivia; if he loses, he will stop giving his son headaches. The story unfolds in the family business, raising the question of whether such a big leap is appropriate for an old man.

“Na Catalina de ses Gerres” – Bodega del Sol

Joan Bennàssar is the author of this comedy directed by Àlex Tejedor, with performances by Albert Mèlich and Maria Rosselló. The plot asks how the legend of Santa Catalina and the breaking of jugs began. The search for the truth leads the characters to confront the devil, and an appeal is made to the mysterious Sor Tomasseta.

“Sisyph” – Bar Mavi

Marga Arrom is the director of this tragicomedy. Catalina Rosell and Joan Manel Vadell bring to life the central question: can we run away from the past, even when we try to forget it? Can we change our destiny, no matter how hard we try?

“El Mal Germà” – Hotel Ars Magna

This drama written and directed by Josep Ramon Cerdà explores the effects of a new drug discovered by a family business. The plot focuses on the decision of Mr. Joan Hereu, director of the company, to give an interview to the press in the face of growing media interest.

“Inbox Odyssey – Udon Restaurant

Alba Vinton brings a comedy starring Marina Vaquer and Mariona Hauf. The play presents a mermaid who drinks everything except water, a woman who embroiders while waiting for her husband, a Ulysses on everyone’s lips and a mythical island: Ogygia, Mallorca or the Bermuda triangle. Love and other things intertwine in a story that poses the question: would you get to Troy in an Uber?
