The president of the government, Pedro Sánchez, has announced the new subsidy for public train transport in Mallorca after meeting with the president of the Balearic Government, Francina Armengol. In his announcement, he stated that 100 percent of train tickets on the railway network operated by SFM (Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca) will be subsidised as of 1 September. Sánchez stated that this discount will be valid for at least three months. The president also announced that, in the case of the Canary Islands, 50% of bus tickets will be subsidised.

This measure of the discount on train tickets in Mallorca lands on the island after several requests from the different political parties to the president of the Balearic Government, Francia Armegol, who was asked to ask the Central Government for the same conditions of rail mobility that have been applied at the state level, as in the case of Renfe. As a result, the Conselleria de Movilidad of the Govern hoped that the central government could compensate for this mobility gap by also subsidising the train in Mallorca.

The subsidised train tickets in Mallorca are within the framework of the new measures of the government in compliance with the saving of energy consumption and the promotion of the use of public transport.

Thus, following Sánchez’s announcement and pending the official gazette that includes this new measure, the citizens of Mallorca will be able to benefit from the full discount on train tickets in Mallorca from 1 September.
