The renowned Mallorcan filmmaker Agustí Villaronga has been awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts along with 30 personalities and cultural institutions by the Council of Ministers, at the proposal of the Minister of Culture and Sports, Miguel Iceta.

This award, indicates Europa Press, distinguishes people and entities that have stood out in the field of artistic and cultural creation or have provided notable services in the promotion, development or dissemination of art and culture or in the conservation of artistic heritage.

Agustí Villaronga (Palma, 1953) is one of the most recognized film directors in Spain, as well as a screenwriter and actor. In 2011 he was already distinguished with the National Cinematography Award.

Among the various awards received throughout his long career are the Goya Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for ‘El Niño de la Luna’, and the Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, among the nine statuettes that ‘Pa Negre’ received. in the 2011 edition.

This film was also selected to represent Spain at the Oscars. His latest film ‘El belly del mar’ has obtained the record of six ‘Biznagas’ at the Malaga Festival and is nominated in the category of Best Adapted Screenplay at this edition of the Goya Awards.

The actors Javier Bardem and Icíar Bollaín, the singer Paloma San Basilio, the Amaral group and the photographer Ana Locking, among others, have also been decorated.
