Mallorcan pork, Mallorcan goat, Mallorcan and Menorcan sheep products can now use the ‘100% autochthonous breed’ seal, a distinctive that guarantees the racial purity of meat, milk, sausages and dairy products.

With this seal, “consumers have a specific identification of products from autochthonous breeds. These are unique genetics, conserved by the farmers of this land and raised in Mediterranean production conditions, in a clear example of sustainable production ”, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food reported in a statement.

Thus, the Balearic Islands already have a total of six authorized breeds (the first were the Minorcan cow and the Mallorcan red sheep). “This responds, on the one hand, to a demand from the livestock sector and the protection of autochthonous breeds; and on the other, to a social and consumer demand, to have guarantees of what is bought ”.

The seal will be visible on the labeling of the products and also at the points of sale or consumption of these.
