The Supreme Court has accelerated the de-escalation in Mallorca by knocking down the measures of the Balearic Government that most restricted freedoms: the curfew and the limit of people in social gatherings. The ruling of the highest judicial body breaks with the timidity in the restrictions in force in Mallorca and the rest of the islands, which forces the autonomous government to recommend, and not impose, that social gatherings be limited to 10 people indoors and 15 outdoors . In addition to withdrawing his proposal, endorsed by the Superior Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands, to continue for at least two weeks with the curfew in all the islands.

Citizens are, from midnight on Wednesday to Thursday, June 4, free to circulate on public roads at any time and to meet socially without taking into account limits on the number of people.

Oxygen balloon for the hospitality industry

After the ruling of the Supreme Court, the hoteliers have gained more strength to demand the extension of their hours and the relaxation of the restrictions that they have been dragging since January. So far, they have achieved that the tables can be occupied by 6 people indoors and 10 outdoors. But, in addition, they request to extend hours; at least until 1:00 a.m., after the removal of the curfew.

For the moment, the Government admits that its proposal for restrictions “is controversial” but continues to defend it and, as far as hospitality is concerned, it will continue in the same line as up to now, with a progressive and slow extension of hours.
