In a year as atypical as this 2020, Internet searches have taken a radical change from the previous year. Queries related to the coronavirus, in all its aspects, have been the most wanted by users, according to the data released from Google Trends in the last 12 months. In addition to other classics such as “weather”, “translator” and the great tech companies: “facebook”, “youtube”, “google” and “amazon”. It was to be expected, but the list of the most consulted queries on Google in the Balearic Islands also includes the odd surprise other than the pandemic.

An unusual year of seach terms: From the coronavirus to Patry
Jordán, going through the “rata chepuda”

Between “coronavirus” and “state of alarm”, highlights the news (“US elections”), new habits (“zoom”) and one that has affected thousands of workers (“sepe”).

The “minimum vital income” and “sepe consultation benefit” coexist with “chepuda rat” (which went viral), “catalan translator castellà” or “spicy questions”.

Food and drinks

“clams ‘a la marinera’”, “pizza dough” and “ceviche recipe” were some of the searches with the highest increase. Could it be that we have cooked more?

People and society

The largest increase in searches in 2020 was for “alex lequio”, “jerusalema”, “the mandalorian” and “george floyd”.

The usual ones such as “income statement 2020” are accompanied by inquiries about “iag quotation”, “mind capital” or “trust investing”.

Smartphone searches increased. But new trends such as “liveonsat”, “webinar” and “whatsapp web” stand out.

Google Trends also provides data on this platform. The singer Camilo, the coach Patry Jordán and Maluma with “Hawaii” increased.
