A fire at the Fontsana residence in Palma forced last Tuesday night to evacuate more than 150 people, including professionals and residents. According to the Police, the fire warning took place around 20.30 pm in one of the rooms of the Fontsana residence, located in Joan Miró street number 4, in the neighborhood of Son Armadans. The 150 people evicted had to be moved to the parking lot of a nearby supermarket where the Red Cross set up tents for the evacuees. Of these, three had to be admitted for smoke inhalation at Son Espases hospital where they remain hospitalized and 34 had to spend the night in the homes of relatives. A total of 82 users have had to be relocated in different residences of the Majorcan Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS). Specifically in the centers of Son Caulelles de Pórtol and Bonanova.

According to Emergencies, have acted in extinguishing the fire and evacuation of affected SAMU 061 troops, Firefighters of Palma, agents of the Local Police and the National Police, members of the Red Cross and Civil Protection, as well as staff of the City of Palma. An operation that was very complicated, according to them, since many of the users of the residence moved in wheelchairs and had mobility difficulties.

The causes of the fire are currently being investigated. For its part, the center has confirmed that the activities planned for the 20th anniversary of the residence have been postponed.
