Palma assisted 329 victims of gender-based violence in 2025

The Servei Municipal d’Acollida per a Víctimes de Violència Masclista (SAMVVM, Municipal Shelter Service for Victims of Gender-Based Violence) in Palma assisted 329 people during 2025, according to the annual report presented by Palma City Council. Of the total, 174 were women and 153 were the victims’ children.

During the year, 219 people entered the shelter service: 123 women who were victims of gender-based violence and 96 children. In all cases considered emergencies, admission took place on the same day, while all other admissions were completed within a maximum of 72 working hours.

Psychological support for victims of gender-based violence in Palma

Psychological support is one of the service’s main areas of intervention. During 2025, 939 individual sessions were held and 127 safety plans were drawn up for the women assisted.

The service also processed 84 certificates recognising victims of gender-based violence, which facilitate access to certain benefits and services.

In terms of housing, 23 referrals for access to social housing were made, along with three others to different accommodation resources.

In the area of employment integration, 57% of the women took part in the Employment Training Programme and received support in finding work.

138 women completed their stay during 2025

A total of 138 women completed their stay at the Municipal Shelter Service over the course of last year.

“The service not only responds at the moment of an emergency, but also supports users throughout a process that should enable them to move towards greater autonomy”, said second deputy mayor and councillor for Equality, Lourdes Roca.

Users gave the support they received an average rating of 9.42 out of 10.

Shelter service budget to increase by 36%

The Municipal Shelter Service had a budget of €1.2 million in 2025. Palma City Council plans to increase funding for the service by 36% under the next contract. In addition, investment had already been increased by 20% in 2024.

The support service, which is a separate resource from the shelter service, will see a 60% budget increase under its new contract.

“This increase in resources responds to a specific objective: to strengthen the capacity to provide support, improve the service’s response and offer more individualised assistance to women and their children”, Roca explained.

During this period, the technical intervention team has also been strengthened, which, according to the councillor, has made it possible to provide “more personalised support and increase the capacity to respond to the different needs of the women assisted”.
