The festivities of Sant Antoni 2024, the patron saint of Sa Pobla, are being celebrated these days in the town with great expectation. They last for two weeks and reach their climax on the 16th of January, the ‘revetla’ of the festivities. Manacor is another of the island’s municipalities that joins in the tradition, although it is not the only one: Sant Antoni is the protagonist throughout the Part Forana de Mallorca.

The Sant Antoni 2024 festivities have their oldest recorded roots in the 14th century. Sant Antoni embraces culture, festivities and tradition and revolves around agriculture and farm animals. The ‘beneïdes’ to bless the animals on the 17th of January are traditional in many municipalities of Mallorca, such as Artà, Manacor, Algaida, etc.
The ‘Completes’ are a spectacle worth seeing that begins with the cry of “Visca Sant Antoni!” (Long live Sant Antoni!) and gives way to a whole hullabaloo of ‘foguerons’, ‘dimonis’, music, ‘gloses’, ‘ximbombes’, ‘corregudes amb dimonis’ and traditional gastronomy, such as ‘espinagades’ or ‘cocas’ (cakes).
