Palma de Primavera 2023

Since yesterday, the courtyards of Palma have been hosting the Palma de Primavera 2023, a festival that offers four free concerts in emblematic venues around the city. The next ones will be held on the 8th, 15th and 22nd of June in the Official College of Architects of the Balearic Islands, Can Oms and the Centre of Military History and Culture of the Balearic Islands (Patio de Santa Margarita).

This year’s festival is dedicated “to the Mediterranean luminosity of Joaquín Sorolla, the nostalgic sensitivity of Pablo Neruda, the imaginative fantasy of J.R.R. Tolkien and the innovative genius of Pablo Picaso”, the Palma Town Hall reported in a communiqué. With this initiative, “we become aware of their absences and renew our artistic commitment to their immaterial and timeless work”, they added.

After the inaugural concert that took place yesterday in the Patio de la Misericordia (Concert I. Absences I. Joaquín Sorolla, 100th anniversary – J.R.R. Tolkien, 50th anniversary), these are the performances that are scheduled:

Thursday, 8 June – Concert II. Absences II.

At 19:30, the Quartet Binomium will pay tribute to Sorolla at the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de las Islas Baleares with a programme based on the life and work of the painter of light.

Thursday, 15th June – Concert III. Absences III.

Can Oms will host the third concert in the Palma de Primavera 2023 festival at 7:30 pm, dedicated to the Chilean poet and Nobel Prize winner Pablo Neruda. Pedro Mateo will play the guitar while Miquel Àngel Torrens will read texts and poems by the author. A poetic-musical proposal to enjoy the poet’s legacy.

Thursday, 22 June – Concert IV. Absences IV

Pablo Picasso will be the last protagonist of the cycle in a concert by Miniatura Ensemble to be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Patio de Santa Margarita of the Centre of Military History and Culture of the Balearic Islands.
