King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia will travel to Ciutadella next Thursday to inaugurate the emblematic Llabrés pharmacy, a benchmark of modernism on the island, built between 1907 and 1908. After six years of renovation work on the building, King Felipe VI will officially reopen it to the public on 12th January at 5:30 pm in a ceremony in which the monarch is expected to say a few words. According to Casa Real, a few hours earlier, at 12:00 pm, the King and Queen will visit the King’s Island.

The legacy of a Menorcan businessman that explains the visit

The Llabrés pharmacy has been refurbished thanks to the Consell Insular and the Hesperia Foundation, a body set up by the Royal Family to manage the fortune bequeathed by the Menorcan businessman Juan Ignacio Balada Llabrés to the Prince and Princess of Asturias and the grandchildren of the emeritus King and Queen in 2010, which includes a mansion and other properties. From now on, this space will be used for the social entity’s own activities and workshops and will welcome visits from the public.

The Llabrés pharmacy is one of the few remaining examples of modernism on the island of Menorca. Its stained glass windows represent the most valuable piece of furniture and decorative elements that have been catalogued for their heritage value.
