Summer sales 2025The summer sales 2026 in the Balearic Islands are an excellent opportunity to save on seasonal products, but also a key moment to practise conscious and responsible consumption. Since the sector was liberalised in 2012, each retailer has been able to freely set the start date and duration of its discounts, which is why several chains and major retail operators have begun their sales campaigns today, 26 June.

This move to bring the calendar forward has not convinced the entire sector. The Federation of Retail Business Owners of the Balearic Islands (AFEDECO) has recommended that the small and medium-sized retailers of the islands delay the start of the sales until 6 July, considering that this date is better suited to the economic and tourism reality of the Balearic Islands and allows businesses to make the most of full-price seasonal sales for longer. The employers’ association stresses, however, that this is an advisory recommendation, as each establishment is free to decide when to start its discounts.

The Directorate General for Benefits, Pharmacy and Consumer Affairs of the Regional Ministry of Health reminds consumers that during the sales, prices go down, but consumer rights do not.

Key tips for responsible consumption during the summer sales 2026

Shopping responsibly during the summer sales 2026 is key to avoiding impulse purchases, faulty products or subsequent disputes. Here are the main recommendations to ensure your purchases are safe, legal and satisfactory:

1. Plan before you buy

  • Make a list of what you really need.

  • Set a budget to avoid impulse spending.

  • Compare prices and quality before making a decision.

2. Check the original price

  • The product must clearly display the previous price and the reduced price, or the discount percentage.

  • Sale items must be clearly separated from the rest.

3. Pay attention to product quality and origin

  • Reduced items must have been on sale for at least one month beforehand in the establishment.

  • Products bought expressly for the sales may not be included.

  • The quality must be the same as before the discount was applied.

4. Know the sales conditions

  • Some retailers apply special conditions during the sales, such as returns or card payments. These must be clearly displayed.

  • Always request and keep the receipt or invoice, as you will need it for complaints or returns.

5. What happens if there is a problem?

  • If you cannot reach an agreement with the establishment, you can request a complaints form and submit a formal complaint.

  • Remember that retailers are not obliged to exchange a product in perfect condition, although many shops do so through a voucher or exchange for another item.

6. Online purchases

  • You have 14 calendar days to return a product purchased online, without having to justify the reason.

7. Advertising and guarantees

  • Keep the product’s advertising, catalogues and instructions: they are binding and you can demand compliance with them.

  • After-sales service and the legal guarantee remain the same during the sales as at any other time.
