The Son Pardo racetrack experienced one of its most memorable days this Sunday with the celebration of the Gran Premio Nacional de Trote 2025 (2025 National Trotting Grand Prix), which crowned the duo formed by Magic Mar and Joan Antoni Riera as the great winners of the flagship race of Mallorcan trotting.

Under an unbeatable atmosphere and with the stands packed with spectators, the 92nd uninterrupted edition of this emblematic competition was held, established as one of the most important sporting events on the Balearic calendar.
Clean and very close start
The race began with a clean and very close start, where the most promising three-year-old trotters from the M generation showcased their talent and competitiveness. The tension remained until the final metres, where the brilliant manoeuvre of the experienced driver Joan Toni Riera — who has now achieved seven victories in this classic — was decisive in securing the win with a time of 1’14”60.
The podium was completed by Miss Blaugrana Mar, driven by A. Valls, with a close time of 1’14”70, and Matador, led by Guillem Andreu, who secured a meritorious third place with 1’15”60. An interesting fact of the day was that the top two finishers belong to the BONANZA stable, adding a special note to this edition of the Gran Premio.
The trophy presentation was presided over by the President of the Balearic Government, Marga Prohens, and the President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, who congratulated the winners and acknowledged the cultural and sporting value of trotting on the island. Also present were Pedro Bestard, Second Vice President and Minister of Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports; Gaspar Oliver, director of the Mallorcan Hippodrome Institute, and Juan Antonio Rosselló, president of the Balearic Trotting Federation.
A day to remember
This year, the 16 best three-year-old trotters, all born in Mallorca and belonging to the so-called “M generation”, participated. Among the favourites were names such as Miracle de Ladil (Jaume Fluxà), Mesquinet SP (Toni Frontera), Miguel (Joan Bauzà), and Matador (Guillem Andreu), who had previously set the best mark of the generation with a time of 1’16”0.
The day began in the morning with the Gran Premio Infantil, reserved for young drivers, consolidating a proposal that supports the generational renewal of the equestrian sport. Additionally, the programme included four more races before the main event, all followed enthusiastically by a devoted audience.
The 2025 edition of the Gran Premio Nacional de Trote will be remembered by fans as one of the most exciting and vibrant in recent years, with impeccable organisation, a very high sporting level, and a clear demonstration that trotting remains one of the great emblems of Mallorcan identity.
