The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in the Balearic Islands has warned of an Isolated High Level Depression (DANA) that will affect Mallorca this coming weekend. A DANA will put the island on yellow alert with heavy rains and storms forecast

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts the arrival of a DANA, an Isolated High Level Depression. A yellow alert will be in effect from 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, until 11:59 p.m. on the same day. The forecast is that up to 30 liters of water per square meter could fall in one hour; in the case of the interior and south, up to 20 liters could be collected.

An Isolated High Level Depression will form over the west of the Peninsula and its radius of action will mainly affect the east, when it comes into contact with the Mediterranean Sea.

It is expected that on Saturday there will be a decrease in daytime temperatures, so that more maximums would be at 26 degrees, when the usual at this time of year are 30 degrees. In reference to the night temperatures these will be above average values: it is expected that the mercury does not fall below 23º-24º, so the night will be tropical in many points.

On Sunday the Aemet forecasts an improvement of the weather in Mallorca. Thus the DANA will move towards the Atlantic. However, very cloudy skies and precipitation are still expected in the morning. The wind will be moderate. Temperatures will rise a little, up to 27º-28º, but will remain below normal. Looking ahead to next week, daytime values are expected to recover and return to above normal.

DANA in Mallorca: Rain on wet weather

The forecast of this new storm would happen less than a week after the storm Betty that brought heavy rainstorms, hail and hurricane-force winds that swept Mallorca this past Sunday, August 27. The result was a total of 429 incidents in Mallorca, especially affecting Palma, Calvià and Andratx.
