The tasks are carried out during the night in the Via de Cintura and are executed in the direction of Andratx and in the coming days will be completed in the direction of the airport and Palma, as reported by the Consell de Mallorca in a press release

The Department of Territory, Mobility and Infrastructures of the Consell de Mallorca launches a new vertical signaling in five sections of the Via de Cintura. It consists of setting continuous lines to prevent dangerous lane changes when you want to access the different exits of the road. The lane changes at the exits cause a large number of braking manoeuvres and this hinders and slows down traffic considerably.

Five sections of the Via de Cintura with continuous line

They are as follows:

  • In direction Andratx, it will be forbidden to change lanes in two sections between the Balearic Stadium and the access to Aragón street, one from the Inca highway to the entrance of Son Hugo and another between the exits of Sóller to Valldemossa.
  • In the airport direction, a continuous line will be painted between the Sóller and Son Hugo exits and another between the Inca exit and the access to Aragón street.

These lines will be between 300 meters and 1.5 kilometers long and the purpose is to avoid abrupt lane changes at the exits of the Via de Cintura. The technicians of the Consell de Mallorca point out this modification of vertical signaling as a pilot test to improve traffic flow and safety. Only new paint markings have been introduced.

Also, the information will be reinforced in the variable message panels that will warn of the existence of new road markings. The work, which is being carried out during the night, is already underway in the direction of Andratx and will be completed in the next few days in the direction of the airport and Palma.
