The Balearic Islands received 17.5 million tourists from January to November, an increase of 8 % compared to the same period in 2022. Tourist spending also rose, to 19,713 million euros, an increase of 15 %. Given these figures published on Wednesday by Ibestat, the year 2023 is expected to be a record year for visitors and spending, even surpassing the pre-pandemic figures recorded in 2019.

By islands, Mallorca attracted 12.2 million visitors, the Pitiusas 3.6 million and Menorca 1.6 million. In addition, the data indicate that more than 65% of tourists arrived without a tourist package.

More foreigners

International tourists exceed 14.2 million, one million more than in 2022. The Balearic Islands is the second most popular autonomous community after Catalonia. Foreign expenditure reached 17,507 million euros, 16.1% more than the previous year.

The average expenditure per person was 1,229 euros, an increase of 6.6%. Domestic travellers spent 2,207 million euros, an increase of 6 %. Catalonia leads in cumulative spending with 19.3 %, followed by the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands.

In November, tourist spending reached 266.1 million in the islands, 41.1 % more than in 2022. Nationally, tourism in Spain increased by 18.2 % in the first eleven months of 2023, exceeding 79.8 million visitors. In November, 5.1 million international tourists were registered, 18.6% more than in 2022 and 10.5% more than in 2019.
