The Consell de Mallorca is holding a contest to choose the names of the rooms of the new refugi de Galatzó. The list of names to vote for is related to some of the mountains over 1,000 meters that make up the Serra de Tramuntana. They can be chosen until Sunday, March 12

The shelter has 50 beds, two for people with reduced mobility, divided into 10 bedrooms and is the result of the renovation project of the old ses Porqueres de Galatzó building. The aim was to adapt it as a mountain refuge for hikers. It also has a kitchen, dining room distributed in three different spaces, bathrooms and showers, outdoor areas and a multifunctional space for events related to the environment, among other initiatives. The multifunctional room of the refuge will be called Puig Galatzó.

The Consell de Mallorca wants to bring citizens closer to its network of shelters and to the ‘Ruta de Pedra en sec’ so they can practice sustainable leisure. “There are many people who have never experienced a night in the mountains, who have not seen a starry sky. We believe that when you experience it for the first time you are never the same again,” said the Councilor for Sustainability and Environment, Aurora Ribot.
