Palma’s boutique hotels and Michelin-starred restaurants exceed the forecasts for occupancy due to North American tourism, after United Airlines flights between New York-Newark to Mallorca were brought forward by a week

United Airlines’ direct flights between New York and Newark to Palma have been brought forward by a week compared to last year. This has led to an increase in bookings at Palma’s boutique hotels and Michelin-starred restaurants in Mallorca.

The first flight is scheduled for this Friday and until the end of September the company will offer three weekly frequencies. This is about 14,000 aircraft seats, 2,000 more compared to 2022, when it started flights on 3 June.

According to the Palma-Cala Mayor Hotel Association (ASPHAMA), bookings at the boutique hotels in the Casc Antic have exceeded all forecasts, and many of them are already fully booked thanks to North American tourism. They claim that it is already the main source market for some of the establishments.

As far as Michelin-starred restaurants are concerned, they are also well booked.

The City Council assures that it has opened up a market that is being consolidated thanks to the success of the flights in 2022.

North American tourism from Toronto and New York

The Newark hub (traffic distribution centre) allows the company to bring Canadian tourists from Toronto, New York and nearby states. The City Council also highlights the promotional work carried out by the Consell, through the Fundació Mallorca Turisme, and the Ajuntament, from the Fundació 365, in conjunction with United Airlines and the Spanish Tourism Offices (OTS) in the United States of Turespaña and the results, again, exceed all forecasts, they say.
