The Balearic team makes history and wins its first title by beating Sporting Portugal in the penalty shoot-out of the Champions League final. This is how Mallorca Palma Futsal becomes European champions

Mallorca Palma Futsal have become European champions for the first time in their history. It did so yesterday, Sunday, by beating Sporting in the ‘Final Four’ that was held in a sold-out Velodrome Illes Balears. The result was 1-1 and 5-3 for Palma Futsal on penalties.

The Balearic team, who were making their debut in the competition, have succeeded Barça as Champions League winners with this victory. It was a thrilling final until the very last moment, which was decided in the penalty shoot-out. It was Mario Rivillos who brought the title home with the decisive penalty. Rivillos was also the one who took the lead in the first half of the match and scored the 1-0. The player was already a two-time European champion with Inter FS.

The Portuguese equalised with a goal from Zicky Te. From extra time it went to the penalty shootout, in which Luan Muller with his save and Rivillos with the final goal gave the Champions League to Palma Futsal and made history.

The highest authorities of the islands, as well as political, sporting and social representatives were quick to congratulate the players, coach and technical staff of Mallorca Palma Futsal for this historic feat. “You are great, you are the best in Europe. What an example of struggle, what pride for our land,” wrote the president of the Government, Francina Armengol on her twitter.
