Mallorcan footballer Cata Coll has been named the world’s best goalkeeper of 2026 at the Ballon d’Or ceremony, held on Monday 26 October in London. The FC Barcelona and Spain goalkeeper, who comes from Pòrtol (Marratxí), has won the Women’s Yashin Trophy, becoming the first Spanish footballer to receive the award.

At 25, Coll receives this recognition following a 2025–2026 season in which she won five titles with Barça and the Spanish national team. The Mallorcan goalkeeper finished ahead of Germany’s Ann-Katrin Berger, Brazil’s Lorena, Japan’s Ayaka Yamashita and England’s Hannah Hampton, who won the previous edition.

Five titles and an impressive season in numbers

The award recognises Cata Coll’s contribution to FC Barcelona’s success, having won Liga F, the Copa de la Reina, the Spanish Super Cup and the Women’s Champions League. These four titles were complemented by the Nations League title she won with Spain.

According to figures published by the Ballon d’Or organisers, the goalkeeper played 39 matches during the 2025–2026 season, keeping 23 clean sheets and conceding 18 goals.

Alongside her performances in goal, the organisers highlight her ability to build play from the back, her accuracy on the ball and her role in organising her teams’ defences.

A historic achievement for the Mallorcan goalkeeper

Cata Coll succeeds Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton, who won the inaugural Women’s Yashin Trophy in 2025. The Mallorcan goalkeeper finished third on that occasion but has now claimed first place, also becoming the first FC Barcelona goalkeeper to receive the award.

The accolade marks another achievement in the career of the footballer from Pòrtol, who was already crowned world champion with Spain in 2023 and has won numerous titles with Barcelona. At 25, she has established herself among the leading figures in international women’s football.
