The Govern balear (Balearic Government) carried out maintenance work along 6,720 metres of watercourses in Mallorca during June. The work covered seven sections in the municipalities of Consell, Pollença, Montuïri, Santanyí and Campos, with the aim of improving drainage and reducing the risk of incidents during periods of heavy rainfall.

The work, carried out by the Regional Ministry for the Sea and the Water Cycle, included manual and mechanical vegetation clearance, the removal of reeds, brambles and accumulated vegetation, cleaning of the watercourses and the removal of trees obstructing the flow of water.
Watercourses in Mallorca receiving the most extensive work
The largest intervention took place along the Solleric watercourse in Consell, where 1,860 metres were cleared and maintained. This was followed by the Can Roig watercourse in Pollença, where work covered 1,050 metres.
Work was also carried out on two drainage channels in Montuïri. At Ca’n Pelut, 1,215 metres were cleared and cleaned, while vegetation was removed from a 140-metre section at s’Alcoraia.
Work in Santanyí and Campos
In southern Mallorca, the work focused on the en Barres and en Vica watercourses, both in Santanyí. The interventions covered 1,305 and 1,100 metres, respectively, and included mechanical vegetation clearance, removal of undergrowth and the selective removal of trees.
The Regional Ministry also carried out maintenance work along a 50-metre section of the Son Xorc watercourse in Campos.
These measures form part of the routine maintenance programme promoted by the Directorate General for Water Resources to keep Mallorca’s watercourses in optimal condition, support their natural drainage and minimise the risk of problems during periods of heavy rainfall.
