The economist and director of the Impulsa Foundation, Antoni Riera, foresees an economic growth of between 8% and 9% in the Balearic Islands in 2022, below the forecasts of the Government, which points to 12%, as indicated last November the Minister of Economic Model, Tourism and Labor, Iago Negueruela.

“The Balearic economy has experienced a very important rebound as the vaccination schedule has progressed. Everything indicates that the normalization process would be around 35%, in the best of cases. This means that we would still have to recover about 35% of the pre-pandemic economic levels and this will hardly be achieved this year.

Perhaps within the first quarter of 2023, yes ”, he expressed in dialogue with IB3 Radio. The economist considered that the recent increase in infections and the appearance of new variants of the coronavirus prevent faster economic growth.

In addition, Riera added that the worst news in 2022 will be inflation because “it will continue to be very high” at around 3%. And he considered that sectors such as food will go upward, although it stabilizes in the middle of the year.
