The Balearic Government finalizes a special inspection device for December 31 and January 1 to guarantee security and compliance with the COVID-19 regulations.

The objective of this device is that the celebrations of both New Year’s Eve and January 1 can be carried out with the maximum security conditions, with the application of the COVID passport as appropriate and without crowds, dances without a mask, non-civic practices, bottles or excessive gauges. The device, coordinated by the General Directorate of Emergencies and Interior, will have inspectors from the Government and the new Tourism inspectors from the Consell Insular de Mallorca, and local police and the Civil Guard will also collaborate.

This coordination between security and emergency bodies is essential to act in areas and establishments where risk situations occur. Specifically, the inspectors of the Government and the Consell will act in the foreign part of Mallorca, together with the local police and the Civil Guard, to avoid that certain celebrations involve an excess of capacity and a breach of current regulations. The Palma Local Police will be in charge of its scope of action, and inspections are also planned for the islands of Eivissa and Menorca.

From the Government it is recalled that this device aims to guarantee the safety of all people at a time of high number of infections and prevent the breaches of a few putting the safety of everyone at risk. The general director of Emergencies and Interior, Jaume Barceló; Enrique Gómez, commander of the Civil Guard; Vicenç Martorell, director of the Institute of Public Security of the Balearic Islands (ISPIB), body that coordinates the local police of the Balearic Islands, and Toni Bernat, head of the Emergency Department, defined the measures of the security device.
