Govern balear is considering closing access to hiking trails in the Serra de Tramuntana due to the “risk of landslides”. The Emergency Department 112 has already begun the de-escalation process and will begin to lower the alert levels. In this regard, it has been decided to dispense with the assistance of the UME, which has left the island

Govern balear will carry out inspections on the Serra de Tramuntana hiking trails to check for landslides on the routes and to assess the restriction of access on these routes. As explained by the director of the 112 Center, Vicente Soria, the Emergency Department has already begun the de-escalation process and will begin to lower the alert levels. In this sense, the Technical Committee of METEOBAL and INUNBAL has already decided to dispense with the help of the Military Emergency Unit.

From the 112 fear the influx of people to the Serra over the weekend and that there may be risk of rockslides and falling stones.

The Military Emergency Unit leaves Mallorca

From today the rescue teams will begin to demobilize, among them the Military Emergency Unit (UME) displaced to Mallorca. Yesterday afternoon the last planned evacuations took place: two adults and two minors in Cala Tuent and sa Calobra, all in good health.

Gradually roads are being reopened. This is the case of those connecting Orient with Alaró and Randa. The roads that are still cut due to snow, flooding or falling trees are:

  • Bunyola-Orient and Bunyola-Sóller.
  • Pollença-Lluc, Caimari-Lluc and Lluc-Fornalutx.
  • Sa Pobla-Playa de Muro
  • The Formentor road
  • Felanitx-Sant Salvador Sanctuary

The detour of traffic between s’Esgleieta and Palmanyola is also maintained. Traffic has been diverted through the urbanization Sa Font Seca.

All the updated information can be consulted in the road viewer of the Consell de Mallorca website.

On the other hand, different areas of Mallorca are still without electricity supply. They are: Orient, Lluc, Alfàbia, sa Calobra, Formentor and Cala Tuent, where Endesa explains that it is almost impossible to access. The difficulty to solve some of the failures is found in the fall of trees and the accumulation of snow. For this reason, IBANAT and Civil Protection help the operators of the electricity company to access the affected facilities.

Ruta de Pedra en Sec is impassable

Consell de Mallorca is working to make the most affected sections passable again due to the effects of the storm Juliette.

The Department of Sustainability and Environment of the Consell de Mallorca asks all hikers to stay off the paths of the Ruta de Pedra en Sec because safety cannot be guaranteed. Given the risk of landslides, it is recommended not to walk along the hiking trails.

The stretches most affected by falling trees are:

  • those from Sóller to Pollença, which correspond to stages 5 (Muleta – Tossals Verds), 6 (Tossals Verds – So n’Amer) and 7 (So n’Amer – Pont Romà) of the Ruta de Pedra en sec.
  • Stages 2 (Estellencs-Esporles) and 3 (Esporles – Can Boi) have also suffered damage and the damage is being assessed.

Popular walk Estellencs-Puigpunyent suspended

The Department of Sustainability and Environment of the Consell de Mallorca has suspended the popular walk from Estellencs to Puigpunyent that was scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, March 4. After visiting the area it has been found that it is not possible to guarantee the safety of hikers due to the fall of trees that, in many sections, make it impossible to walk the path. Another date will be sought to inaugurate the section between Estellencs and the Coll d’Estellencs, which has recently been incorporated into the Ruta de Pedra en sec.
