From 16th to 23rd December, the Consell de Mallorca has organised a series of events, concerts and family and solidarity activities to celebrate Christmas 2023 at the Misericòrdia cultural centre. In addition, the Mallorca Crafts Awards 2023 and the Awards for Sustainable Nativity Scenes will be presented.

 

The Consell de Mallorca celebrates Christmas at La Misericòrdia with a programme of family and solidarity activities from the 16th to the 23rd of December. The first of the activities that has been organised is a living nativity scene, which is being held again after 10 years.

  • The garden of the Misericòrdia cultural centre will host this re-enactment on Saturday, 16th December, from 5.30 pm to 9 pm, with actors and around seventy citizens who have signed up, as well as animals from Natur Parc, such as sheep, chickens and pigs. There will be a route with different Mallorcan stalls, shepherds, a nativity scene, the Three Wise Men from the East and a street market. The day will be decorated with music: the children’s choir of the Teatre Principal will take part and there will also be a performance of the chant of the Sibil·la.
  • On Sunday, 17 December, at 11 a.m., there will be a children’s workshop on fun science, where the little ones will be taught how to make artificial snow, and at 12 noon, a storyteller: ‘El secret de l’home dels nassos’. Anyone wishing to sign up for the fun science workshop can do so free of charge by sending an email to culturamallorca@conselldemallorca.net.
  • From 18 to 22 December, during the week, the activities are scheduled in the afternoon.
  • On Monday, at 5 p.m., it will be the turn of the concert by the 3×4 Choir and, at 7 p.m., the concert by the Music Unit of the General Command of the Balearic Islands.navidad misericordia
  • On Tuesday, at 6 p.m., there will be a concert by the Sant Josep Obrero CC Youth Choir and the Arcángel San Rafel CC Children’s Choir, and at 7 p.m., it will be the turn of the Son Espases choir and the Valldemossa Choir to perform. In addition, between concerts, the Sustainable Nativity Scene Awards will be presented, organised by Escoela Catòlica de las Illes Balears, to commemorate the eighth centenary of the first nativity scene in history.
  • As for Wednesday, 20th December, there will be storytelling at 6 p.m., with El rei Carboner, and at 7 p.m., the concert by the choir of the Open University for the Elderly. On Thursday, 21 December, at 8 p.m., there will be a concert by the Music Band of the Brotherhood of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza y la Paz.
  • On Friday, 22nd December, from 6 to 8 p.m., there will again be storytelling, with Sibil·la, a string quintet concert by Nakama Quintet and a concert by Proyecto Assac.
  • Finally, on 23rd December, the final day will take place with the presentation of the Mallorca Crafts Awards 2023. This is the best-endowed edition in the history of the awards and a total of 90 candidatures have been presented, which will be decided at 12 noon in an event with a very artisan atmosphere.

Image of the exhibition of dioramas and neules, in collaboration with the Associació de Betlemistes de Mallorca, at the Misericòrdia. You can also enjoy traditional Christmas scenes in places around Mallorca, such as Cala Deiá, the cloister of Montision de Porreres or unique buildings in Palma like Can Oms.

 

  • On this last day of the programme there will also be a concert by the Marratxí Municipal Band and, once again, a children’s workshop on fun science. In the afternoon, at 5 p.m., there will be a solidarity hot chocolate and a very special Christmas concert combining traditional adult and children’s choirs with rock and gospel choirs. It should be noted that during all the days there will be a solidarity food collection organised by RotarAct.
