The Rotary Club Mallorca has organised a tribute to Pere Comas, who was director of Última Hora until his death, with the placing of a plaque dedicated to him on the Palma’s Paseo Marítimo. The event was attended by authorities, journalists and family members.
The Mayor of Palma, Jose Hila, took part in the unveiling of the plaque dedicated to Pere Comas by the Rotary Club of Mallorca. The event, which took place on the Paseo Marítimo, was also attended by the first deputy mayor for Citizen Safety, Joana Adrover; the deputy mayor for Culture and Welfare, Antoni Noguera, the alderman, Daniel Olivera, and other members of the municipal corporation, as well as journalists, friends, family and members of the Rotary Club.
The plaque recognises the role of Pere Comas “in the history of Palma”. Hila stressed that Comas is an example that “the journalistic profession is always necessary. He was a man who always sought the news”. “We pay tribute to him right in front of the medium that was his home and, from today, his name forms part of Palma’s history”, he added.
Likewise, the Mayor of Palma wanted to highlight “the great work that the journalistic profession carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic”. “It was shown that it is always necessary. That is why today’s event is also a tribute to journalism”, he said.
