Known as “la vila” among the local population and a must for those who wish to explore the Serra de Tramuntana, Andratx has inspired writers and artists due to its great natural wealth and historical value. The small coves, the vast cliffs and its charming natural harbor, as well as its picturesque alleys and exquisite gastronomy welcome the visitor.
The best walking routes
Andratx offers numerous walking routes of different levels that can be done on both asphalt and trails. Among the itineraries recommended for their excellent views and scenic beauty, the excursion to Camp de Mar, Sant Elm (La Trapa) or Port d’Andratx, from where you can get to La Mola; the route of Sa Coma Freda and Sa Coma Calenta; or the ascent to the Torre des Cap Andritxol.
Delicious gastronomy
The products of the land and the sea are very present in the local gastronomy. The tumbet, frit de matances, fish rice or the greixonera de Pasqua are some of the dishes that are frequently served in the wide variety of restaurants that the municipality treasures. It is also possible to taste typical Mallorcan products in the weekly market on Wednesdays, which has been held since the mid 19th century and has different stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, sausages, handicrafts, flowers, clothing, etc.
Beaches for every taste
Andratx has 24 beaches and coves that can be accessed by car, public transport or just on foot, as they are unspoiled places. From the beaches of Sant Elm (Cala Conills, Es Geparut and Cala s’Algar) you can see the magnificent Sa Dragonera Natural Park. Port d’Andratx, with beaches such as Cala de Egos, Cala En Fonoll, Cala Llamp or Cala Marmassen, is also an excellent place for swimming and diving. Without forgetting the crystal clear waters of the stone and rock beaches of Camp de Mar: Ses Dones, Cala Cranc or Camp de Mar beach.
La Trapa and Sa Dragonera
The Trapa Nature Reserve is a must-see attraction. This farm, whose name reflects the presence of Trappist monks in the valley in 1810, has beautiful elements of traditional architecture and a spectacular viewpoint overlooking Sa Dragonera, the largest islet on the island. With a length of 4.2 km, the Sa Dragonera Natural Park is home to an important colony of sea hawks and was a refuge for corsairs and smugglers in the past, which has given rise to countless legends.
