The 2026-2027 flu vaccination campaign begins earlier, on 5 October, in schools and residential care homes and for patients receiving home care. Flu vaccination in the Balearic Islands for children extended to age 11

One of the main changes is the extension of childhood flu vaccination from six months to 11 years of age, compared with the age limit of seven last season.

Vaccination in schools will begin on 5 October for children aged three to five in the second cycle of Early Childhood Education whose parents have given their consent. Healthcare teams will visit 351 schools in the Balearic Islands to offer the vaccine to around 27,000 pupils. School staff who wish to be vaccinated will also be able to receive the vaccine.

Vaccination will begin on the same day in residential care homes for older people and people with disabilities, as well as for patients receiving home care.

RSV immunisation in the Balearic Islands

For the first time, the campaign includes immunisation against RSV for vulnerable adults. From 5 October, it will be offered to people aged 60 and over living in residential care homes and health and social care facilities, as well as to certain people over 18 with very high-risk conditions.

For infants, immunisation begins on 1 October in public hospitals and private clinics. Newborn babies born up to 31 March 2027 will receive the monoclonal antibody before being discharged. From 5 October, families of babies born between April and September will also be contacted to protect children under six months of age.
