The Palma-New York direct flight operated by United Airlines will be significantly strengthened for 2025. According to the announcement made by the Consell de Mallorca and the airline during the Fitur trade fair, the route will feature a more than 50% increase in available seats, will operate one month longer than in 2024—until 24 October—and will increase the weekly flight frequency from three to four.
Additionally, the Palma-New York direct flight will use Boeing 767-400 aircraft, offering greater capacity and comfort for passengers. Unlike the Boeing 767-300, this model features 34 Polaris SM business class seats, 24 Premium Plus SM seats, 48 Economy Plus SM seats, and 125 economy class seats, catering to a variety of traveller preferences.
Palma-New York direct flight: a commitment to transatlantic connectivity
Antonio de Toro, United Airlines’ sales manager, highlighted the importance of this route, which remains the only connection between Mallorca and the United States since its launch in 2022. During this time, the global seat offering on this route has grown by over 75%. “Our customers in Mallorca will now benefit from more time and more travel options to visit New York City, as well as an unrivalled network of routes from United’s hub at New York/Newark, offering seamless connections to 58 destinations across the Americas,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, the President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, positively valued this improvement, particularly the extension of the route into October, aiming to ensure that such connections are not limited “to the summer months”. “This represents greater mobility for both leisure and work, eliminating the need to stop over in other cities on the continent, which adds inconvenience and cost. Ultimately, it opens up new opportunities for residents and contributes to economic growth,” he added.
United Airlines’ historic expansion
The extension of the Palma-New York route is part of United Airlines’ most ambitious international expansion plan, which will add new destinations in 2025 such as Nuuk (Greenland), Palermo, Bilbao, and the islands of Madeira and Faro. Additional routes will also be launched from Washington D.C. and Denver, solidifying United’s position as a leader in transatlantic flights.
