88% of Balearic citizens plan to make purchases during the sales period, with an estimated expenditure per person of 179 euros. This is according to data from the survey carried out by the Spanish Consumers’ Association (Asescon). The archipelago is one of the regions with the highest spending forecasts. Nationally, each consumer who is preparing to take part in the winter sales plans to spend an average of 164 euros, which is particularly relevant in the current context. This figure represents a decrease of 21 euros compared to the previous year’s forecast.

Contrasting with the general trend, where 88% of those surveyed do not expect any additional discounts during the sales, Madrid (202 €), Vizcaya (201 €) and Valencia (200 €) are the leading provinces in terms of expected spending. On the other hand, Albacete (€120), Ceuta (€123) and Cáceres (€124) are the regions with the lowest spending estimates.

In percentage terms, Madrid stands out again with 94%, followed by Álava and Barcelona, both with 93%. In this context, it is striking that in the Balearic Islands, despite the high spending forecast, the percentage of consumers who will go to the sales is 88%, which is below the national average.

The Spanish Consumers’ Association has produced a comprehensive report on the January sales, emphasising the importance of the data collected in the survey. It is notable that, despite the freedom of dates for the sales, consumers in the Balearic Islands show an outstanding participation in this sales period, which may influence the economic dynamics of the region during this Christmas period.
