The Consell de Mallorca has presented the programme Una nit a la Serra 2024. A project that seeks to immerse primary school pupils in the rich biodiversity of Mallorca, allowing them to spend a night in a refuge of the Consell de Mallorca’s network. “This type of experience helps children to learn about the Consell de Mallorca’s network of refuges and to pass this knowledge on to their family and friends,” said the vice-president and councillor for the Environment, Rural Environment and Sports, Pedro Bestard. He added that “an aware child helps to raise awareness in his or her immediate environment”.

Una nit a la Serra 2024 is part of the environmental education programme of the insular institution called “Els oficis de la Serra”. Participants, from schools that request it, will have the opportunity to enjoy a unique experience at the Galatzó refuge in Calvià. The programme not only aims to connect children with nature, but also to offer them an insight into the traditional trades of marger and carboner. Through this immersion, it is hoped that young people will become aware of the importance of preserving both the natural environment and the cultural heritage of the island.

Details of Una nit a la Serra 2024

The new initiative Una nit a la Serra 2024 is designed for primary school students, organised in class groups. The activity will take place on Tuesdays in March, April and May. The programme is completely free of charge and includes the stay at the refuge, educational activities, as well as lunch and dinner for the participants.

The councillor for the Environment, Rural Environment and Sports, Pedro Bestard, highlights the positive response to this activity among schoolchildren from all over the island and stresses the importance of raising awareness of nature conservation in a fun and early way. “Nature belongs to everyone and we have to take care of it,” Bestard emphasises.
