Palma Christmas lights switch-on 2026The eagerly awaited Palma Christmas lights switch-on 2026 is moving to a new location. The traditional event that marks the start of the city’s Christmas programme will take place on Saturday 21 November at Parc de la Mar, after being held in Plaça d’Espanya for the first time last year.

The change of venue follows the large turnout recorded in 2025. The Ajuntament has chosen Parc de la Mar for its greater capacity and to provide better conditions for the celebrations, with the Cathedral as a backdrop. The city council explained that the move aims to “strengthen Palma’s connection with the sea” and improve the experience for those attending.

Christmas 2026 will also bring other new attractions to Palma. Festive lighting will extend to more streets and neighbourhoods across the city, while the Parc de Nadal, also located at Parc de la Mar from 21 November to 6 January, will feature 60 stalls, a real ice rink, food, crafts and family activities over 46 days.

Date and location of Palma’s Christmas lights switch-on 2026

For now, the Ajuntament has confirmed the two main details of one of Palma’s most eagerly awaited Christmas events:

  • Date: Saturday 21 November 2026.
  • Location: Parc de la Mar.

The starting time has yet to be announced. The performers taking part and the exact details of the show have also not been confirmed.

The Ajuntament de Palma has awarded the contract to organise the show to DEEJAYSGRUP SL for €373,769, including VAT. The contract covers the production of a large-scale performance combining different artistic disciplines and elements.

The show will conclude with the traditional countdown and the switching on of the Christmas lights, officially welcoming the festive season to Palma.

From the huge turnout in 2025 to Parc de la Mar

The change of venue follows the 2025 switch-on ceremony in Plaça d’Espanya, which hosted the event for the first time. The celebration attracted thousands of people, making the square in central Palma one of the main gathering points of the day.

The large turnout meant that the venue became extremely crowded during the show. The move to Parc de la Mar now provides a larger setting for a celebration that has become one of the major public events marking the start of Christmas in the city.

Christmas lights to reach more streets and neighbourhoods

In addition, Christmas decorations will continue to spread across Palma this year. The Ajuntament has announced that festive lighting will reach more streets and neighbourhoods, although it has not yet specified which new areas will be included or provided figures for the 2026 lighting scheme.

The expansion aims to bring the Christmas atmosphere beyond the main streets of the city centre and increase the number of areas decorated for the festive season.
