With the start of summer today, 21 June, some franchises and large establishments have already begun the sales, although the official kick-off is tomorrow, 22 June. The island’s employers’ associations have asked small businesses to wait until the traditional 1st of July to start the sales

Franchises such as C&A, Women’s secret and Springfield have already been on sale for days, when tomorrow, 22nd June, the official sales will begin in the big shopping centres. Meanwhile, the Balearic traditional trade associations have asked small shops to wait until 1 July, as they do every year, to start applying discounts. Discounts will be between 30 and 40 percent at the beginning of the campaign, although some of them are announcing sales of 50 percent.

The sector regrets that some franchises, which traditionally advance the application of discounts, have started the sales at a time when only a small part of the summer garments have been sold. A situation that will worsen from the official start of the sales, tomorrow 22nd, when the big shops join in. In addition, there is the possibility of benefiting from these sales from tonight when purchases are made on the internet.

They also regret that large companies can take advantage of Sunday the 25th, which is one of the non-working days that the government has included in the list of public holidays with authorised commercial activity. In this way they will benefit from the boost of the discount campaign in its first few days.

Afedeco and Pimeco ask to wait until the 1st of July

The traditional trade associations Afedeco and Pimeco have asked small businesses to wait until 1 July to start the sales in a statement, and not to join the campaign that starts tomorrow. Although they recognise that they can do so as the dates of the sales are liberalised.

One argument put forward by these organisations is that it makes no sense to apply aggressive discounts, which can reach 50%, when not even 15% of summer clothes have been sold yet, and especially when the bulk of tourism has not yet passed through the islands, with this group accounting for a high percentage of summer shopping.
