Spanish tennis is in luck: the country’s greatest legend Rafa Nadal has received a new nomination for the Laureus World Sports Awards 2023. It is a vote carried out by sports media around the world

Rafa Nadal is nominated for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award, after winning the award on three previous occasions. He has won the Australian Open and Roland Garros in 2022, the 21st and 22nd Grand Slam victories of his career. He became only the fourth male athlete, along with Roy Emerson, Rod Laver and Novak Djokovic, to win all four majors at least twice – the Career Double Grand Slam.

The tennis player has thanked Alcaraz for his nomination, via his social media, and congratulated him. Although he says that the award should go to Leo Messi: “Come on Leo Messi you deserve it,” he posted.

Nadal is in one of the most competitive line-ups for the award, which includes FIFA World Cup heroes Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé, two-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen, pole vaulting star Duplantis and NBA Finals MVP Stephen Curry.
