Iberia guarantees the islands’ connectivity and jobs after the purchase of Air Europa. The President of Iberia, Javier Sánchez, has held a meeting with the President of the Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol

Iberia guarantees the connectivity of the islands and the jobs of Air Europa after the purchase of the airline. The process to obtain all the authorisations and complete the process could take up to 18 months.

According to the President of the Government, Francina Armengol, Iberia has expressed its commitment to maintaining connectivity and jobs. For the Balearic government, this is a crucial issue, as Air Europa’s headquarters are located in Llucmajor. The jobs in the company must be maintained at least five years after the purchase and seven in the case of handling staff.

For his part, Sánchez insisted that the connectivity of the islands is fundamental for the Iberia group and assured that it is the best connected Spanish territory after Madrid and Barcelona. The Iberia president also stressed that the purchase of Air Europa is in favour of the consumer and will be positive for the competitiveness of the aeronautical sector.

With regard to the resident discount, the Iberia president defends its continuation as it has been up to now. In recent weeks, the Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (Airef) had raised the possibility of giving a fixed subsidy per route. A measure that was later denied by the Ministry of Transport, which assured that no changes in the operation of the discount were being considered.
