The Canamunt and Canavall 2022 festivities resume their programme after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The Orgull Llonguet collective invites the public to take part in the traditional celebration, one of Palma’s most eagerly awaited summer festivities. The highlight is the water battle between Canamunt and Canavall, on Sunday the 4th of September in Plaza Juan Carlos I (Plaza de las Tortugas). This is one of the main novelties of the Canamunt and Canavall festivities in 2022, as it changes location and leaves the Parc de la Mar.

Canamunt and Canavall Water Battle 2022

Those attending the great water battle will be able to buy their T-shirts and banners at the stall that the organisers will be setting up on Saturday in the Plaça d’Espanya. The pre-battle will begin on Sunday at 16:00, with the Canamunt and Canavall gangs meeting in their usual squares (Sant Jeroni and Plaça Drassana). At 4:30 pm a parade will go around Palma to invite the citizens to join in the festivities. And at 17:00 the battle will begin.

As has become a tradition, in this fifth Canamunt and Canavall de Palma festival there will be a space reserved for the children’s battle, which will include water pools. In addition, at the end of the event, participants will be able to enjoy a concert with a brass band.

The programme of the Fiestas de Canamunt and Canavall 2022, put together by Orgull Llonguet, includes the unfurling of coats of arms, on Friday at 19:00 in Cort. Also the dinner of brotherhood of gangs, which will be held at Ses Voltes from 20:30. Finally, on Monday, September 5th, the burial of Berga will take place in Sant Pere Nolasc street, bringing the celebrations to an end.

The spokesperson for Orgull Llonguet, Laura Velilla, expressed her enthusiasm for resuming this festival in Canamunt and Canavall in 2022 after a two-year break. “We started in 2015, but these two years of hiatus mean that this year we will be celebrating the fifth edition. Our aim is to recover a part of the history of our city,” she said. A story that recreates the confrontation between the two noble factions that took place in Palma and Mallorca at the end of the 16th century: Canamunt and Canavall.

Special arrangements

The City Council is coordinating the necessary arrangements to ensure that the celebration goes off without incident. Emaya will provide three water tankers, the same amount as in previous years. Containers will also be distributed in the area and a special cleaning service has been programmed at the end of each of the activities. Ten portable toilets will be provided, both standard and adapted, a stage will be set up and the electrical installation will be installed. On the other hand, road traffic will be interrupted from 14:00 on Sunday.
