Retail sales increased by an average of 8.2% in 2022, while employment in the sector increased by 6.4%, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) published Monday.

Balearic Islands leads the ranking in retail sales for the eighth consecutive month, according to INE data published today. Balearic Islands also records the highest increase in job creation in 2022 with a rate of 6.4%, far above the national average of 2.2%.

Regarding December, the Islands are in second place in job creation with an increase of 3.1%, only behind the Canary Islands which is now in high season and records an increase of 3.3% compared to the same month last year. In terms of retail sales, these increased by 8.9% in the same month.

According to the Balearic government in a press release, retail trade in the Balearic Islands is the first non-seasonal employer in the autonomous community.
