The Consell de Mallorca has announced this Monday that it has put in the hands of the Public Prosecutor’s Office the investigation of three new possible cases of sexual exploitation of minors under guardianship of the Majorcan Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS). These could have occurred during the last three months and have been detected by workers of the residential centers.
In this context, the president of the Consell, Llorenç Galmés, accompanied by the president of IMAS, Guillermo Sánchez, explained that the insular institution has announced the beginning of an external audit, already in the phase of previous considerations, in all the entities dependent on the Institute of Social Affairs of Majorca (IMAS).
According to Galmés, the objective is to “improve the child protection system, the procedures and the programs” it offers. Currently, he added, the IMAS has under its guardianship approximately 1,000 boys and girls, of which 395 live in its centers directly or in a concerted way.
