The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) warns of high temperatures of up to 43 degrees in Mallorca and has activated the red alert for extreme heat on the island. It will be particularly severe from tomorrow, Tuesday, with temperatures between 35 and 43 degrees

Extreme heat is coming to Mallorca; after last week’s heatwave scorched the island, this week some areas of Mallorca will reach 43 degrees, according to information from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Specifically, as of today, Monday, the orange alert has been activated in the interior of the island, between 12:00 and 19:00 hours, as the forecast is for the thermometer to reach 39º. In the south, the Serra de Tramuntana, the north and northeast the warning will be yellow. As far as the interior of Mallorca is concerned, maximum temperatures of 38º are forecast, and in the rest of the island, 36º. In addition, mist and dust in suspension are expected. The delegate of the Aemet in the Balearic Islands, María José Guerrero, has assured that “we can talk about the second heat wave of July, of the summer and of the year: from Monday until Wednesday, at least”.

Extreme temperatures from Tuesday

From Tuesday onwards, temperatures will rise significantly. Daytime temperatures will range between 35º and 43º, while night-time temperatures will not fall below 25º-30º. It is worth noting that the maximum temperatures will be so high that a red alert has been activated in the interior of Mallorca between 11:00 and 20:00, when they may exceed 42º. In the south, the Tramuntana, north and northeast the warning is orange, as the forecast value is 41º, although it could occasionally reach 42º. In the Llevant area, the alert is yellow, as the maximum temperatures will be 38º and, occasionally, 39º.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, 19 July, the weather forecast for Mallorca indicates partly cloudy or clear skies and dust in suspension. Minimum temperatures will remain unchanged or rise, while maximum temperatures will drop in the north of the island but will remain unchanged in the rest of the island. The wind will blow lightly variable with weak coastal breezes.
