With the cinemas still closed, companies in the sector are preparing to resume their activity and once again welcome loyal users of the seventh art in their theaters. Juan Salas, manager of Aficine, specifies that “only a few premieres will begin on June 26 and already on July 3 most of the national and international billboard will resume.” It will therefore be in July when most of the cinemas on the islands reopen.
The Aficine group has 22 rooms in Palma, 7 in Manacor, 6 in Mahón and 5 in Ibiza. All of them have been closed for months, since the state of alarm. At that time, “some films were in full global release and had already invested much of their production in marketing. For this reason, they went directly to premiere in streaming ”, notes Salas. “But they have been very few. Most of the films paralyzed their premiere and left it for the reopening ”, he adds.
“Films that were scheduled to premiere in March have now moved to August, such as ‘Padre no hay mas que uno 2’, by Santiago Segura; or the new James Bond film, ‘No Time to Die’, which has been rescheduled for November, ”says the manager of Aficine. The premieres, therefore, will be happening in this last semester of the year.
Numbered seats and capacity
During these months of hiatus, Salas explains that “the National Federation of Cinemas of Spain has worked together with the Ministries of Health and Culture to approve the pertinent health protocols. We believe that the capacity will be almost complete when the alarm state ends, between 75% and 100% of the total. Always implementing the appropriate sanitary measures such as the use of hydroalcoholic gel, masks if there is less than a meter of distance and cleaning between sessions, so there will be more time between each projection ”. In addition, all rooms will be numbered, “so that users can choose where to sit,” adds Juan Salas.
At the moment, movie fans will have to wait a little longer to enjoy the seventh art where it is best enjoyed, in theaters, but everything is ready for the expected re-release of the screenings, which will be generalized on July 3.
