Llucmajor will introduce traffic restrictions in numerous areas of the municipality during the solar eclipse on Wednesday, 12th August 2026. S’Arenal, Son Verí, Cala Blava, Bellavista, Maioris, Puig de Ros, sa Torre, Badia Blava, Badia Gran and Tolleric are among the areas affected by measures designed to prevent congestion and ensure access for emergency services.
The solar eclipse on 12th August 2026 in Mallorca will bring significant changes to mobility in Llucmajor. The Town Council has established traffic restrictions and access controls in several areas of the municipality in anticipation of the large number of people expected to gather to watch the phenomenon, particularly along the coast.
The measures are intended to prevent congestion, guarantee the safety of residents and visitors, and keep essential routes clear for emergency services.
The restrictions will affect different parts of the municipality and will be particularly significant during the afternoon, in the hours leading up to the eclipse.
Restrictions in s’Arenal during the eclipse
One of the areas facing the greatest restrictions will be s’Arenal. From 4:00 pm on Wednesday, 12th August, access will be restricted.
Emergency services and public transport will be allowed through, as will residents of s’Arenal and Son Verí who can provide proof of residence.
Property owners with the appropriate documentation, workers with proof of employment in the area and tourists with a hotel parking reservation will also be permitted access.
Access to Berga, Cabrera and Terral streets from Dragonera will be restricted. Access to garages located between Dragonera and Formentera will still be permitted.
Access to Son Verí and Recalde Street
Restrictions will also apply in Son Verí, s’Arenal and Recalde Street.
Recalde Street will be closed from the Ma-6014 to Cedre, except for residents and emergency vehicles.
Baladre Street will serve as a checkpoint for residents, public transport, workers and tourists with proof of a parking reservation.
This will also be the access point for anyone attending an emergency or scheduled appointment at Hospital Son Verí.
Cala Blava and Bellavista
Access to Cala Blava and Bellavista via Camí de s’Enderrocat will be controlled throughout the day of the eclipse.
Emergency services, residents, public transport, property owners and workers who can demonstrate their need to enter the area will be allowed through.
Tourists with a booking at Cap Rocat hotel will also be permitted access.
Maioris, Puig de Ros, sa Torre, Badia Blava and Badia Gran
The measures will be particularly significant in several residential areas along the Llucmajor coastline.
To prevent congestion, access to this area will only be possible via Maioris, Puig de Ros and sa Torre.
Emergency services, residents, public transport, property owners, workers and tourists with a booking at hotels in Puig de Ros will be permitted access.
The Town Council has also introduced specific measures at locations where large numbers of people are expected to gather to watch the eclipse.
The sa Pedrera de la Seu car park and the road down from the Badia Blava viewpoint will be closed once they reach maximum capacity.
In Badia Blava and Badia Gran, once the planned restrictions are activated, access will be limited to emergency services only.
Restricted access to Tolleric
Access to Tolleric will also be restricted.
Only emergency services, residents, public transport, property owners, workers and tourists with a booking at the hotel in the area will be allowed through.
Access to the Sanctuary of Gràcia to be closed
The restrictions will also affect the Sanctuary of Gràcia, one of the municipality’s elevated locations.
The Town Council will close the usual access routes via Camí Vell de Gràcia and the Ma-5018 road.
The measure forms part of the operation designed to prevent excessive concentrations of vehicles and people in areas where mobility and emergency-service access could be particularly difficult.
Who will be allowed into restricted areas?
Although the conditions vary depending on the area, the measures include several exemptions to ensure that people who need to reach their homes, workplaces or accommodation can do so.
In general, where permitted in each area, residents, property owners, workers, public transport and emergency services will be allowed access.
The Town Council has also stated that people who can provide proof of a reservation at a hospitality establishment in the municipality will be allowed through, so it is advisable to have documentation confirming the booking available at checkpoints.
Recommendations for the eclipse in Llucmajor
The Town Council advises people to avoid using private vehicles unless absolutely necessary and to prioritise public transport throughout 12th August.
Residents and visitors are also advised to check the Town Council’s social media channels and local media in advance for any changes or new mobility instructions.
Residents expecting visitors should inform them of the planned restrictions to avoid access problems during the afternoon.
It is also recommended that deliveries, supplies and other loading and unloading operations take place during the morning, before visitor numbers increase and the main restrictions come into force.
Hotel groups, shops, restaurants and residents’ associations will receive direct information about the measures. The Town Council will also notify Aqualand and municipal staff.
Llucmajor prepares for large crowds during the eclipse
The Llucmajor coastline is expected to be one of the areas of Mallorca attracting significant numbers of people to watch the solar eclipse on 12th August.
With this in mind, the authorities aim to prevent a large influx of vehicles from blocking roads and coastal residential areas, particularly at locations considered attractive because of their orientation and unobstructed views of the horizon.
Anyone planning to travel to Llucmajor to watch the eclipse should therefore plan both their viewing location and their journey in advance, bearing in mind that access to some areas will be restricted and certain locations may be closed once they reach capacity.
