The new Local Police station in Son Castelló will be located in the former fire station on Gremi dels Picapedrers street. Palma City Council’s Governing Board has approved the lease of the building, which will have capacity for around 150 officers and will strengthen the force’s operational capacity ahead of the planned increase in staff.

The new facilities form part of the municipal plan to modernise the Local Police and improve its presence across Palma’s neighbourhoods. Around 170 new officers are expected to join the force during 2026, followed by a further 50 officers in 2027.
The Son Castelló Local Police station will occupy the former fire station
The building, owned by ASIMA, was selected after the available alternatives in the area were assessed. Technical reports concluded that it is the only property that meets the requirements for the new police station, prompting the City Council to award the contract directly.
The future headquarters will occupy the basement, ground, first and second floors of the former fire station. The facilities will include offices, meeting and briefing rooms, changing rooms, storage areas, technical and service rooms, as well as parking spaces for police vehicles.
ASIMA will fund the refurbishment work
The refurbishment project has already been drawn up by the City Council. The work, with an estimated budget of €1 million, will be carried out and fully funded by ASIMA before the police station becomes operational.
The Governing Board has also authorised maximum expenditure of €3.52 million, including VAT, to cover the lease of the building for the planned 20-year term.
A wider network of police stations
The new police station will form part of a series of projects to expand and modernise Palma Local Police facilities. These include the future Nou Llevant headquarters, which will replace the facilities at Sant Ferran, the planned police station in the former Metropolitan cinemas and the Ses Estacions police station, which is already operational.
Through this project, Palma City Council aims to strengthen community policing and provide the force with facilities suited to the planned increase in staff and the city’s current needs.
