The Universitat de Mallorca (UMAC) has taken the definitive step towards becoming a reality following the approval of its founding law by the Parlament de les Illes Balears. The new private academic institution has been created with the aim of expanding the higher education offer in the Balearics, adapting it to new professional demands and bringing higher education to different parts of the island.

The project envisages a network of campuses spread across Palma and Inca, in addition to an online campus, with the aim of structuring the territory and facilitating access to higher education. Specifically, the physical campuses will be located in Inca and in different parts of Palma: Son Rossinyol, Coll d’en Rabassa and Jaime III. The initiative builds on the track record of ADEMA, which has more than 30 years of experience in education, research and educational innovation.

A practical, interdisciplinary and connected academic model
UMAC is committed to an academic model based on interdisciplinarity and the practical application of knowledge. Teaching will combine theoretical instruction with active methodologies, advanced simulation environments and technologies such as artificial intelligence and 3D haptic systems, according to ADEMA in a press release.
The project also incorporates a multilingual approach — Catalan, Spanish and English — and a close connection with the professional environment, supported by collaboration with more than 400 companies and institutions.
Research and knowledge transfer
The Universitat de Mallorca has been created with a strong research vocation, with lines focused on areas such as health, nutrition and applied artificial intelligence. The aim is to strengthen scientific output and facilitate knowledge transfer to the productive fabric.
It also envisages partnerships with universities and international centres to promote academic mobility and integration into global networks.
Territorial and social impact
The distributed campus model aims to bring the university closer to society and to energise different urban environments. The initiative is committed to the reuse of existing spaces and sustainable development, while also strengthening ties with local economic sectors.
The project also includes a scholarship programme worth up to 6.8 million euros over ten years, aimed at high-achieving students, elite athletes and lower-income profiles.
Universitat de Mallorca: a new part of the Balearic university system
The creation of the Universitat de Mallorca is presented as a strategic commitment to strengthen the university system in the islands, expand educational options and help retain and attract talent. The new institution aims to promote key sectors and consolidate the Balearics as a hub of knowledge, innovation and skilled employment, ADEMA notes.
