The Diada de Sant Jordi 2026 will once again transform the centre of Palma into a major cultural route on Thursday 23 April, with books, roses and activities that will bring a festive atmosphere to the streets under the motto “Llibres i roses arreu”. The event is organised by the Gremi de Llibreters de Mallorca and is supported by the Ajuntament de Palma, the Consell de Mallorca, the Obra Cultural Balear and the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics.

The event will bring together booksellers, authors and readers across some of the city’s most emblematic locations, where book stalls will be set up alongside signings, literary encounters and cultural activities. The main locations will include Plaça Espanya, Sant Miquel, Via Roma, La Rambla, Plaça Major, Plaça Marquès del Palmer and Plaça Cort, creating an urban route that makes culture easily accessible to residents and visitors alike.

As is tradition during the Diada de Sant Jordi 2026, books will be available with a 10% discount, reinforcing the popular character of an event that combines reading and celebration.

Diada de Sant Jordi 2026 beyond 23 April

The programme extends beyond the main day with new initiatives. Among them is ‘L’aperitiu de Sant Jordi’, which will take place on 18 April, from 10:00 to 14:00 h, in Plaça París, Plaça Progrés and carrer Nuredduna, with book stalls set up in different neighbourhoods of Palma.

In addition, on 22 April, at 19:00 h, the opening speech will be delivered by the writer Maria Antònia Oliver at Librería Quart Creixent.

Another new feature of this edition is the involvement of the florists’ collective, which reinforces the traditional link between books and roses, one of the most recognisable symbols of Sant Jordi.

Promotion of reading

The Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Culture, Javier Bonet, thanked booksellers during the presentation for their work “in promoting reading, especially among younger generations”. He also highlighted the “strong commitment” of the Ajuntament de Palma to the Diada de Sant Jordi through the operational and logistical support provided, as well as the activities organised in municipal libraries. In this regard, he stressed that the event “fills the city with joy, culture and diversity”.

Bonet also recalled that, for the first time, the City Council has included a budget allocation of €15,000 for the Gremi de Llibreters de Mallorca, which will be formalised through a collaboration agreement.
