The Directorate General of Emergencies and Interior of the Balearic Government keeps the orange alert for rain and storms in Mallorca active, within the framework of the Special Plan for Adverse Weather Events (METEOBAL). This is the first time such alerts have been activated since the start of the flood season, declared on 15 August.

According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the coming hours in Mallorca will be marked by instability, with a critical period expected between 13:00 and 18:00 today. The arrival of a cold air front colliding with warm air masses will cause intense storms, with rainfall potentially reaching 50 litres per square metre, accompanied by lightning, possible hail, and a slight drop in temperatures. Winds may reach gusts of up to 80 km/h. Storms are expected to mainly affect the southern and eastern parts of the island, moving progressively.
Awareness campaign
For the first time, the Government has launched a public awareness campaign on self-protection against phenomena such as DANA (Isolated Depression in Upper Levels), under the motto “Information saves lives, protect yourself, stay informed”. Recommendations for citizens include:

-
Do not cross areas with flowing water, on foot or by car.
-
Avoid unnecessary travel.
In case of emergency:
-
Call 112.
-
