The Palma City Council, in collaboration with PalmaActiva and SMAP, has launched a special free parking campaign during the 2024-25 Christmas season to encourage shopping in local businesses and establishments across the city.

The initiative, running from 23 November to 20 January, will allow citizens who make purchases of at least 20 euros to enjoy up to six hours of free parking in various municipal car parks. This measure aims to improve access to Palma’s city centre and promote local commerce and dining.

The participating car parks in this scheme are:

  • Calle Manacor
  • Santa Pagesa
  • Parc de Sa Riera
  • Via Roma
  • Eusebi Estada
  • Comtat Rosselló
  • Plaça Major
  • Marqués de la Sènia
  • Antoni Maura

For every purchase exceeding 20 euros, participating establishments can provide customers with a voucher covering up to two hours of free parking. Each customer may collect up to three vouchers from different shops, allowing them to enjoy up to six hours of free parking per vehicle.

Commitment to local commerce

The Councillor for Commerce, Restaurants, and Self-Employed Workers, Lupe Ferrer, emphasised that this initiative, with a budget of 100,000 euros, reflects the City Council’s commitment to local businesses. For the first time, shops can participate in the campaign free of charge, thanks to an agreement splitting the cost of the vouchers between PalmaActiva and SMAP.

“This campaign is designed to invite families from Palma and surrounding municipalities to experience shopping in our local stores, enjoy our local gastronomy, and stroll through our illuminated streets during this special season,” Ferrer stated.

Furthermore, the initiative seeks to revitalise Palma’s city centre during Christmas, encouraging shopping and dining while providing convenient parking options for customers.

How does it work?

  • Participating businesses can obtain parking vouchers from SMAP, which will cover 50% of the cost, with the remaining 50% funded by the Commerce Department.
  • For every purchase of 20 euros or more, customers will receive a parking voucher.
  • Each customer can accumulate up to three vouchers, equivalent to six hours of free parking.

With this campaign, the Palma City Council strengthens its commitment to an economic model that supports local businesses, encourages spending in small shops and restaurants, and promotes a pleasant and accessible experience in the city during the festive season.
