The Balearic Islands is the region of Spain with the most vehicles per thousand inhabitants. This is according to data published this Monday by the DGT in its General Statistical Yearbook. In total, last year there were a record 912 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants. This makes the archipelago the most congested autonomous region in terms of population. It is followed by Extremadura, with 839 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants, and the Canary Islands, with 834.
Vehicles registered in the Balearic Islands in 2023
In 2023, the Balearic Islands reached a total of 1,103,193 registered vehicles. Of these, 86,400 are lorries, 69,480 vans, 2,302 buses, 746,392 passenger cars, 176,070 motorbikes, 2,349 industrial tractors, 8,846 trailers and semi-trailers and 11,354 are other vehicles.
Also in the classification by provinces, the Balearic Islands is almost in the lead, behind only the province of Cuenca, with 945 vehicles per thousand inhabitants.
