The Consell de Mallorca has launched a new edition of the “Una Nit a la Serra” program, which will allow primary school students to enjoy a unique experience: spending a night at the Galatzó refuge in Calvià. This initiative, part of the Department of Environment, Rural Affairs, and Sports, aims to connect students with the island’s natural and cultural heritage.
Activities and Program Objectives
“Una Nit a la Serra” offers a total of 22 activities throughout the 2024-2025 school year, with the goal of familiarizing children with Mallorca’s natural surroundings. During their stay, students will participate in the activity “The Trades of the Serra: Public Estate of Galatzó,” which highlights traditional local skills, such as dry stone walling (marger) and charcoal making (carboner), both part of the island’s rich cultural heritage.
The program, running from October to May, is completely free and includes transportation, accommodation at the refuge, educational activities, and meals (dinner and breakfast). It is open to schools across the island and aims to promote respect and awareness of the importance of preserving the natural environment among young people.
In the 2023-2024 school year, 473 students participated in 12 activities organized by the Consell de Mallorca, demonstrating the success of this initiative, which continues to grow with each edition. Therefore, a high number of applications is expected this year as well.
